TMNT: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Volume 4 # 30 ..cover final (( MAY 2009 ))

TMNT: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Volume 4 # 30 ..cover final (( MAY 2009 )) [[ Courtsy of PL ]]

LAIRD :: "Here’s the cover to the recently completed (like, yesterday) TMNT #30:

I handed it over to Dan Berger yesterday and he has sent it off to the printer. We’re now waiting to see the printer’s proof. Hopefully, within a few weeks we will have printed copies and will be able to begin fulfilling mail orders. Shortly after that starts, we will put it up online for free. The pricing is the same as for issue #29 — $10.00 per copy (I think there may also be shipping and handling — check the ninjaturtles.com site to make sure). I will also be doing Turtle head sketches on the inside back covers of each of at least the first 150 copies that go out via mail order."

Decider Chicago’s Guide to N.F.C.B.D. ::

Avengers
What it’s about:
Edgy writer Brian Michael Bendis, who rejuvenated Marvel’s stalwart superteam earlier this decade, continues to shepherd the group into uncharted territory with his new Dark Avengers series. This Avengers giveaway should be a nice intro for incoming fans as well as a fun refresher for the converted—not to mention a way to build hype for 2012’s Avengers movie, in which Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, and others will band together on the big screen.
If you like this, try: Marvel Masterworks: The Avengers. This reprint collection of the early-’60s Avengers comics has been published in various forms over the years, but Marvel is releasing it in a fresh trade paperback in May that compiles the first 10 issues—written and drawn by the legendary Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Don Heck.

Owly And Friends
What it’s about:
One of Free Comic Book Day’s kid-friendly offerings, Owly And Friends nonetheless has a draw for fans of grownup indie fare. In addition to Andy Runton’s immaculately rendered, whimsical cartooning is a backup story (and cover art) by alt-comics sensation James Kochalka—a master of subversively heartbreaking cuteness.
If you like this, try: Quit Your Job. Kochalka’s breakthrough 1998 graphic novel follows the elf-eared, buck-toothed Magic Boy as he tries (and triumphantly fails) to reach the North Pole.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
What it’s about:
Before Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles morphed into a pop-culture goldmine, the comic was a small-press, black-and-white publication that coasted on its outrageous name and surprisingly dark, bleak atmosphere. In honor of TMNT’s 25th anniversary, creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird are reissuing the title’s debut as it originally appeared: as a crude, sketchy little booklet full of wit and promise.
If you like this, try: Ronin. Not only is Frank Miller’s grimy yet austere 1983 limited series the inspiration for the cover of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles No. 1, it helped kick off the samurai-comics craze that culminated in parodies such as TMNT—which, of course, wound up becoming a genre unto itself.

Love And Rockets Sampler
What’s it about:
A landmark of “alternative comics,” the long-running Love And Rockets has volleyed wildly from close-knit Mexican villages to Chicano punks to female wrestlers over its 30 years, which makes it intimidating for neophytes. While this teaser doesn’t feature any of the series’ most beloved characters (save superhero wannabe Penny Century), it’s still a good introduction to Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez’s blend of magical realism, goofy wit, and surprising poignancy.
If you like this, try: Maggie The Mechanic. Jaime’s “Ti-Girls Adventures” recalls his earliest stories, where science-fiction and telenovela melodrama mingled freely. If you’re more taken with Gilbert’s “Chest Fever” one-off, start with Heartbreak Soup and prepare to fall in love with the deeply flawed citizens of Palomar.

Green Lantern: Blackest Night No. 0
What’s it about:
DC Comics’ major nerd-gasm event of the summer pits the intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps against its zombie equivalent—the Black Lantern Corps. This prelude to the big dork-off aims to fill in the details for new readers and tease fanboys and girls who have waited years for the showdown.
If you like this, try: Top 10. Prolific comics writer Alan Moore (Watchmen) takes the “superheroes as law enforcement” motif to another level. In it, a police department of superheroes is charged with keeping law and order in a city where everyone has superpowers. It’s The Shield meets The Justice League Of America.

Hey everyone! So this is something super exciting. Our first contest! The kind folks at LionsGate sent us a set of all FOUR Season 7 DVDs to give away on GoGreenMachine. Yup, these are the brand new ones that release on May 12th! We have a set waiting for you to take from us! Here is what you’ve got to do:

Write us a story about the TMNT in your life. It could be anything, as long as YOU and the TMNT are present somehow. Maybe a special birthday or Christmas, or when you went to the Coming Out of Their Shells Tour. Did the turtles help you over come an obstacle? Write about that! You could write something fictional if you want, but we would prefer true life tales :-)

About a page long would be perfect, but no more than two pages. PLEASE NOTE that your entry will most likely wind up on GoGreenMachine.org at SOME point, so your participation is basically telling us that we can use your work on our site.

This contest is not about skill. Every person who enters will have the same chance as anyone else. The names of all entries will be tossed in a hat and we will pick one at random.

If chosen, you will win the entire Season 7 DVD catalog. That includes all four DVD slices and Mini-Figures.

Please send your 1-2 page essay to Stephan@Gogreenmachine.org

PLEASE BE SURE TO INCLUDE Your Name and address so we know where to send your DVDs.

All Essays must be in our mailbox by 12AM Pacific Standard Time on TUESDAY May 12th.

Sorry, but no member of the writing staff of GoGreenMachine is eligible ( including tokka. ~ t :{    ) . Sorry guys, you know I love you.

Good luck everyone! And…

Go Green Machine!

“I got an email from Steve Murphy yesterday, with some information which was sent to him from Randy Falk at NECA. Here are the pertinent quotes from Randy, along with an image:

“I just wanted to send over an image of our SDCC exclusive for this summer.
It will be a brand new April O’ Neil figure that comes with a Battle Damaged
Mouser and a Regular Mouser with a new head featuring an articulated jaw.

This is the first non Turtle figure in the NECA TMNT collection

This version of April will be available at San Diego Comic Con this July.

We are going to try to make arrangements to offer a small amount of figures online for those who can not attend SDCC.”

Pretty cool! I look forward to putting these on my shelf next to the NECA Turtles. –PL

That sound you heard last week? That was millions of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” fans yelling “Cowabunga!” at the news that the famous Heroes in a Half Shell would be returning to the big screen in a new movie scheduled to hit theaters in 2011.

While rumors of a new TMNT movie have been circulating for a while now, last week’s official announcement kicked off a nationwide celebration of the characters’ 25th Anniversary.

Back in September, I spoke with “Ninja Turtles” co-creator Peter Laird to clear up some of the initial rumors surrounding the film, and now that it’s official, he was able to offer a few more details about the return of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo to the big screen.

“I can say that at this point there are a lot of positive feelings about a ‘Batman Begins’-style ‘reboot,’ which would, of necessity, include a retelling of the Turtles’ origin story,” Laird told MTV News of early plot discussions regarding the film. “Having said that, I would also be into an all-new story, if it was decided that that was a more desirable direction. Either way is fine with me, to be honest!”

Laird went so far as to share some specific story points that TMNT fans hold near and dear to their hearts as potential elements in the upcoming film.

“Simply telling the story of what happened in the first issue of the ‘TMNT’ comic book would be a pretty short movie, so I suspect other things from the Turtles’ history in the comics might be brought into it,” continued Laird. “I would not be unhappy to somehow see the tale of Baxter Stockman and the robotic ‘mousers’ folded into this movie, as well as some elements possibly setting up the TCRI connection for a possible sixth (or seventh) movie. But I think I’m getting a little ahead of myself there.”

As for other characters we’re likely to see in the film, the “Ninja Turtles” co-creator said the villainous Shredder would be a necessity for any TMNT origin story, and also mentioned that both intrepid reporter April O’Neil and vigilante Casey Jones came up during recent creative discussions.

Finally, Laird also offered a few more details regarding the way in which the live-action filming and computer-generated effects will blend to bring the Turtles to the screen in the upcoming film.

“The basic idea, as I understand it, is to do an all live action shoot, with actors and stuntmen in full Turtle suits,” said Laird. “To add expressiveness to the Turtles’ faces which would be difficult if not impossible to get with animatronics and/or puppetry, there would be ‘face replacement,’ with CGI Turtle faces superimposed on the live action performers’ heads.”

“This technology has been proven to be incredibly effective if done correctly,” added Laird. “Look at the character of Davey Jones in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movies, with his mass of writhing tentacles… an incredible effect.”

What do you think of Laird’s take on the film? What stories from TMNT history do you still want to see on the big screen? Any characters you want to see brought to life? Sound off!

Just wanted to drop a quick note to tell you guys that we recieved our registration for e3 (June 2-4) came in today. What does that mean to you? You can now expect full coverage of the event from this site, especially anything we can dig up about the new turtles brawl game and whatever else Ubisoft is cooking up for the future of the green team.

T. Jones : It’s always cool seeing dudes you create come back, and seeing how other people handle them. Something I’m a big fan of in comics, and a big fan of doing in my own comics, is yanking the little things out of obscurity and using them again. Admittedly, this was something I had sort of planned WAAAY back when #59 was supposed to come out around #40… anyway, take a look!

–>> .. the ultimate capitalist

: Mr.Null literally sold the Earth the evil Maligna for um.. "DEVOUR – ATION".

Causing some of the most ‘ devilish plots ‘ and story lines against the TMNTs and their Mutanimal friends .. Null is a continuing, evolving demonic force.

With each act of immeasurable evil ..his appearance and shape becomes more reflective of the Devil that he truly is.

** Vaughn tackles toys of characters that others and Playmates Toys dare never touch.

Cult and fan favourites that have had more obscure or fiendish but equally important roles in the TMNTs continuing adventures and storylines.

Yet get overlooked and under played due to to the fact that the fall under the banner ‘ TMNT’ .
