Funky gunk that rocksThe rain stopped today, and it was pretty sunny. Too bad my front and back yards are so damned water logged that I can't run the mower through them. Incidentally, I know live somewhere in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest. Seriously, The mosquitoes are the size of crows. They don't sting, they stab.
Neighbors on the west cut their yard... For once, they beat me to it. Mr. Flores, the late East neighbor's gardner, mowed that yard today as well. Damn me for having to keep my appointment at the salon. I called Sylvia, my stylist, yesterday to postpone until today because I had to run some errands and take Mom to lunch. Today I went in around 1:45 pm, and left at 2:15 with an even better faux-hawk (or Mohican) than last time. Still, it doesn't compare to Becks. One of my co-workers who has been pulled aside by management on several occasions because of his personal hygiene put candy apples on each of our desks this evening. The one he put on Albert's desk has several ants crawling around between the wrapper and the apple. I'm staying away from the one he put on my desk. We received word from corperate that the sale of the company will not be happening. They worked out a deal with the "family" that will be beneficial to everyone involved. So, it looks like MediaNews or Gannett will not be our new parents. Still, this is just the first phase. Something else may come of it, and still I'm unsure if my job is on the line. That being said, we've lost quite a few reporters. For every one we hire, two leave. Another is out because of surgery and another is very unhappy with his job at the moment. The ones who are still around don't turn in their best work. Albert and I have been working on mast heads for this new youth section. This thing still hasn't gotten off the ground. When it does, it's gonna fall on our shoulders. Not that that's a bad thing. I mean, yeah more work... But also, more experience in layouts and all that. Hopefully it'll all work out. Things are starting to look better financially too. I actually have some money in the bank. I'm not in the hole, and I'm now just above breaking even. I'm going to resist buying stuff. My sister did buy me a Ninja Turtle beanie though. Which reminds me, I have to record tomorrow's episode. Oh yeah... $16.99 is too much to pay for any amount of hair styling 'manipulator.' Inhumanoid's Metlar![]() Leave it to Matt at X-E to actually lead me to the real name of my old favorite monster toy. The monster's head would always fall off... I used to use him as a bad guy to fight against the TMNT. I wonder what the hell happened to Metlar. Mikey was being stupid at 11:58 PM :: Sunday, October 12, 2003
"Who put those rocks there?!"This morning it started raining yet again.... This time, there was thunder and lightning... more action than the past couple of weeks' worth of constant sogginess. Even so, the backyard got just as saturated as it did last Tuesday. It's pretty much just swamp out there, and water continues to flood the garage and apartment. Yes more thunderstorms are forecasted for the next few days.
There was an article in the paper a few days ago that said residents suffering damage from the rainfall can qualify for loans up to $200,000 at 2.8% interest for 30 years, since the county was declared a disaster area by the governer. Of course, it would have been better if he'd submitted it at the federal level, which would bring grants financial aid. But our governer sucks like that. I don't understand what all this rainfall is about anyway... It NEVER rains here, now it's raining too much. Guh. Last night Vanessa and I went to her friend's birthday party in McAllen. It was kind of a long way to drive just for the short amount of time we spent there. But it was enjoyable. Afterwards, we attempted to go to Graham Central Station, but it closes at 2 and we arrived at 1:45 ... I wasn't all that interested in what the club offers anyway. I saw too many older people with cowboy hats and cholo types coming out of the building. I don't think I would have enjoyed it. So we drove back to Harlingen and had some food at IHOP. Then we went back to Vanessa's house to watch the video of her trip to the Aerosmith concert. It was enjoyable, but after watching the home-video cinematography for about 2 hours from 3-5 am, I started getting really nauseated. I couldn't even look at the screen. Instead I let my eyes wander around the room.... Vanessa's house could do with a bit of an interior redesign. :P Finally, I got back home, very nauseous, I fell into bed and slept till the thunder woke me up hours later. I kept dreaming of a wedding, a man fighting his brother in a hotel room and a poisonous gas knocking them both unconscious as I jumped from the balcony of the second floor to the parking lot. Adventurous. Mikey was being stupid at 9:37 PM :: |
