Weekend day 2... Meg kicks ass!Meaghan wasn't mad at me yesterday at all. When we arrived to pick her up from school (45 minutes early), she came out all smiles and giggles... She was wearing two ribbons -- a gold "All A Honor Roll" ribbon and a white "Perfect Attendance" ribbon. She pulled out her report card and listed in all of her subjects were high 90s, and Es for "Excellence." Another certificate said that she had perfect scores on her three benchmark exams -- 100% in Reading, Writing and Arithmatic. She also exclaimed that she had scored a 110 on her spelling test... getting a perfect score on everything, including the bonus words.
After my sisters took her to her jazz & tap dance class, they took her back to my house and she worked on her homework. Then it was off to gymnastics class where Mr. Adam had her tumbling, walking handstands and many other difficult tasks. He gave Meaghan a double high-five and cogratulated her on her improved skills in handstands and backflips. I have this feeling of enormous pride for Meg. We went back home and she finished up her fire prevention poster... which came out beautiful. Mikey was being stupid at 11:19 PM :: Wednesday, October 01, 2003
Weekend day 1...Early this afternoon, I began some clearing out some of the junk around the back patio and driveway. I managed to clean quite a bit and if I could just get rid of all that damned cinder block, it'd be perfect! The small wooden fence they are up against has almost completely rotted away. I plan to remove it and make the driveway clear so I can park in the driveway whenever it's nasty outside. That means I'll have to tackle the garage pretty soon. My sister is still planning on how she's going to renovate the living space back there. I just wish I had the money to have it done right away.
After lunch, the both of us tackled some backyard issues. Our plumerias, which are at least 7 feet tall weren't doing so well, since the rain practically uprooted them. So, we chopped em up and made 8 seperate plants and used them to line the space between the soon-to-be-removed clothesline and back alley fence. The setup looks a lot better than before, and once they grow and spread, the unsightly alleyway will be completely invisible. Yay! Late in the afternoon we went over to my mom's house to meet up with Meaghan. I helped her with her fire prevention poster, and later in the evening we went to drop her off at home. Kat helped her with her homework as I went thru the basics of the alphabet with Travis. When Meaghan began her reading assignment she wanted everyone to pay attention. As she was showing the pictures from her book, I was attempting to pry 4-year-old Travis off of me. The fact that I wasn't paying attention to what she was showing me, sent Meaghan in a fit and she brought up her jealousy bit about "You always pay attention to Travis, not me!" This upset me because I had spent all evening helping her ... but rather than suck it up and realize that she's only 7, I decided to act childish myself and instead of look at the pictures every time she read a page of the book, close my eyes and "use my imagination." This sent her into another fit and she refused to read anymore of the book. She started playing the jealousy card again, and it hurt and avoiding a fight I just wanted to get home. So, I told Katherine to meet me in the car. When we were leaving she told me that Meaghan was left crying, but that she told her that she shouldn't be jealous because we love both her and her brother just the same. We don't play favorites. No matter how true this statement is, though, I still feel bad because I left her crying. Instead of being mature, I ended up hurting her feelings just to prove myself right. Tomorrow I'm planning on picking her up at school and taking her to her jazz & tap and gymnastics classes. We'd already planned on finishing up her poster tomorrow, so hopefully she's not still upset with me. Mikey was being stupid at 2:44 AM :: Monday, September 29, 2003
The weekend is here!Yes, that's right the week-END! Wooo! I'm so looking forward to Tuesday and Wednesday off... Payday is on Wednesday and I racked up 106 hours this pay period. Thank goodness for co-worker vacations huh.
Bad news is that it doesn't make the big boss very happy when I have that many hours. So, we were told today that we have to Shawn has to be brought up to speed when it comes to the Web site and daily stuff. Which sucks because the Web site is the ONLY edge I have on him. He likes to think of himself as the best employee in the building. He's told me that he believes he can do anyone's job... even better than they do. He's sure of it. He gloats over everyone because he lays out pages and creates illustrations for feature fronts. He edits pages, writes a couple of columns and has a serial comic strip in the Rio Sun. What he doesn't realize is that his layouts and illustrations are only good sometimes... His columns are trite and hard to follow... and his comic strip is not very comical... I've heard from many sources that they just don't understand it. I don't either. Now he's trying to take over the recently-created youth page, which integrates local students' work with the Valley Morning Star. We three (graphics guys) are supposed to act as mentors to the students, who submit stories, photos and layout the page. But Shawn thinks that he has more say in how the page is developed than anyone. This is the furthest from the truth. But, I've had a few meetings with my editors, and it looks like they are turning to me for more youth-oriented interaction. After all, I'm 7 years younger than Shawn -- much closer to the target age group. So, in time, we'll see just how involved he is in this process. Mikey was being stupid at 11:26 PM :: |
