So by now everyone knows the news-- and everyone's expressing their thoughts everywhere except HERE-- me included.

So, thoughts?

I found out about this on Stealthy Stories, and I don't know what to think. I guess only time will tell what Nick will do with the franchise. I'm a bit leery about it, since I don't watch Nick at all, but I'll just wait and see what happens.

I moved this to the Storm Grate because we need a topic there relating to Nickelodeon acquisition.

If its cool with you Cyn, we'll keep it here from being buried in Birthday threads etc :)

I'd sell my intellectual property, but like with Peter Laird I would have a run with it first before cashing in and settling myself for the rest of my days.

If I owned TMNT, it would depend on who wanted to buy it and if I'd be ready to sell it yet. If I wasn't ready, I'd keep it for as long as I could. However, this was Laird's decision, and all we can do is wait and see what happens with the show once it airs.

But as GreenWillow said somewhere else:

I feel bad for the Mirage crew, and the loss of the fans' personal connection with the creators.
The thing that really struck me last night was that the TMNT was *the* pioneer in the independent comic book publishing. They led the revolution. Mirage Studios along with some others drafted the Creators Bill of Rights (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creator%27s_Bill_of_Rights) And now they've been wholly devoured by corporate America....

I wonder what Kevin thinks. I know that he'd been bought out in 2000, but he'd retained until about two years ago SOME rights-- then he sold to Laird completely, for an undisclosed amount and the rights to reprint "Body Count" and something like 10 or 12 of the original comics via Heavy Metal. If he'd not done that, he might be considerably richer by now.

Weird-- I had a DREAM about him last night, that he'd friended me on facebook.... better go check!!

Yes, I feel bad for the Mirage crew as well. It just sucks that this had to happen, but there's nothing we can do about it except wait and see what happens next. But I do feel it's a shame that he sold it now in lieu of the 25th anniversary of TMNT. He should've waited until after that if he wanted to sell it at all.

it scares me, yeah they will be on tv for probibly 6 more years, but what the( given they dont ruin it in those 6 years) its a huge corperation, they will move on to the next dollar maker i dont see ren and stimpy 2, or roccos modern life: back to the outback anywere, do you? it will be discarded with ownership still and we will never hear from it again. and as far as the comics go, sh@#, we not gonna see them as soon as those 18 issues are up, gone.

I feel bad that the Mirage crew has to lose their jobs over it. That's the thing that worries me the most since the job market is so scarce at this time. If the Turtles go off the air again, it will indeed be sad, and I feel bad for fans of the comics as well. However, as I've stated before, despite these misgivings, I'm not going to wallow in self-pity over it. I've got enough on my plate to worry about than TMNT at the moment. I'm just going to wait and see what comes of the show. If Nick royally screws it up, I won't bother with it and just immerse myself in fan fiction. If the show turns out to be good, I'll keep watching. That's the way I see it.

Yeah, the best thing we can do is just wait and see.
