Today, from the floor of Toy Fair, Playmates made a bunch of announcements (one for each toy line). But to hell with the other stuff, you came here for turtles!

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES – Mutant Turtles THRIVE

Turtle Power is in full force with the dynamic 2010 line of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES toys available exclusively at Toys R Us. After a quarter of a century, kids of all ages still love to play with Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael. A brand new live action movie that traces the Turtles back to their origins is in the works and is tentatively slated for October 2011, with Galen Walker (TMNT) and Scott Mednick (300) producing. The product line will reflect the special blend of action and humor which makes this franchise so unique and popular. Playmates will introduce new products and re-introduce original products and packaging to focus on the retro style which first popularized the TMNT in the late 1980’s and early 90’s. ORIGINAL MOVIE STAR FIGURES of all four Turtles will be available, along with the Classic Party Van, Sludge Runners and Ninja Gear Role-Play in Retro Packaging. In addition, fall 2010 will see the launch of the CLASSIC COMIC BOOK FIGURES as seen in the very first comic book from 1984. Cowabunga!

So let me pull out the important bit for you. According to this release, the Classic Comic Book Figures (which have been known to have been a dead project for quite some time) are once again alive and kicking. This is pretty fantastic news, especially with amount of foot dragging our friends at NECA have been showing with their TMNT line. Perhaps 2010 won’t be such a quiet year as we thought. Fingers crossed!

“The Target stores here in Australia stock a free mag for kids called ‘Just Kidding’ that contains a one-page-per-issue reprinting of the rare Titan ‘TMNT Fast Forward’ comics (towards the end of the book). There are also some other neat tidbits in there for people to check out, and fortunately, there’s an online version.”

- GameSpot has posted a TMNT article to usher in the release of “TMNT: Smash-Up.”

- Peter Laird has posted corrections based on erroneous information that was printed in the TMNT Collected Book Volume One (out now – we’ll have a Paypal link to order the book posted next week if you can’t find any copies locally). Check out Peter’s blog to get the facts – and my sincere apologies to everyone, especially Kevin and Peter, for making the gigantic editing mistake.

- I’ve finally started posting the screenies for the “Ninja Tribunal” episodes – episode 104 now has screen shots.

- We’re getting plenty of questions about when the “TMNT Forever” film will be released on DVD, and right now the answer is  we don’t know. Mirage and 4Kids are seeking a distributor for the project – as soon as we find one, we’ll let ya know. It’s a phenomenal piece of animation that we can’t wait for everyone to see – so rest assured that everyone involved is doing their best to get the movie in stores ASAP.

“I’ve been corresponding with a fan named Arseniy Dubakov for a few years now. I think that I’m correct in saying that he is really into the Turtles and even self-publishes his own Turtle comic. This comic, I don’t know if you’d call it a alternate take of the Turts or just a re-imagining of the Turtle universe but it’s a very gritty/sexy world his version of the Mirage characters operate in. His comic is called SaiNW and issue number 3 is due out September 9. Arseniy’s work has been featured here on Boxburning before- he sent me a birthday card that I posted here last February. Very cool stuff.
Arseniy approached me and asked if I wouldn’t mind if he could translate and post issues from my old Paleo series, and naturally this is the cover from the first one. It just looked so cool, and he did such a nice job that I had to give him credit here for all his hard work. The comic (Paleo #1) is on Rapidshare and available for download **here.” — Jim Lawson

“Here’s a blast from my checkered past. Meet Lockjaw the Loggerhead!

This was drawn in May 1990 for a proposed low-budget monster movie — to be shot in Ohio, if memory serves, and my connection was via my friend Ryan Brown (of TMNT, Bog and Cowboys of Moo Mesa fame). It was, to my knowledge, never made, and nothing ever came of this. I’d forgotten completely about it until I turned up these drawings unpacking the archives this weekend!

I even sketched some ideas for how Lockjaw might be realized as a full-sized monster suit with animatronic puppet heads for closeups.

Lockjaw was drawn just one month after I had submitted a similar concept (at the time rejected, or so I thought) for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toy concept, Terrorpin the Terrible…

Clearly, I was intent upon somebody, somewhere recognizing the overlooked monster potential in ‘casting’ a snapping turtle hybrid in some sort of villainous role!

For years now, i’ve always felt at a disadvantage covering the Biggest Comic Convention. Always behind the 8 – ball.. always beneath the Plumber’s foot.

It’s been so frickin hard. 

Sure all big million dollar websites send there geek crews out with all their fancy equipment and high paid, sharky ,flashy , and snarky vlog – cast , pod – cast, Blob – cast ,people out to make a big spectacle of everything. Seems like it’s much more important for them to be a smart – ass than actually deliver knowledgeable and legitimate facts. Sarcasm is one thing, but using that as a basis for your news delivery and making that an integral   part of that is confusing to me.  It scews the news, makes it biased, and ultimatly disapointing and false.

Mikey’s was built the ground up and supported not by big fat companies or gigantic databases and legions of devoted bloggers or what have you. It’s been small, low key , paid for by a person who’s busted their ass for money he didn’t have just to keep the darn place running while he was struggling through tremendous obstacles work and school. The Multimedia content and design alone is more than enough to overwhelm me in an instant. Mike’s a genius at keeping up with it all, the paces, technology and providing so much rare and free content to 1000s around the globe. And to do that for a decade for a freekin’ TMNT Fan – site .. yeh all that’s pretty impressive !!
Then you had this freek ( me ) manically trying to cover all the bases .. my struggle and plight are part of everyday and as much as i try to keep that crap OFF this blog, it’s a still very real challenge as i putz through this existence. I get better every day however despite all the ” schizophrenia” or whatever the doctors call it and my communication skills are more coherent and clear. and i can bring you at least the jist of the news without complaints of people going ” W T F, TOKKA? ! ”

Whatever the case, covering the CON it usually was just an army of one Snapper facing an overwhelming trade-show and struggle to find my place in all this chaos that is the arts and entertainment field.

The balance has been that on NONE.. and the sad part is my common goal for Mikey’s has often been lost in the shuffles and hurricanes that has become the amazing TMNT fandom.

My vision for Mikey’s is pretty simple and expands on Mr.Mike Perez’s , founder of this site’s initial home-grown Turtle Fan site.

” I’ve always wanted to deliver an unbiased and balanced report on the TMNT news every week to the best of my abilities, schedule, even despite any technological, mental , or time disadvantages i may have. ”

Mikey’s site has always hung in there .. through good times, bad, wonderful and terrible. And it this point i believe we’ve got a better network to communicate with friends, fans old and new, creators , writers , artists & animators , bloggers, pod casters, broadcasters, film makers, voice actors, ect. ect. ect.

No it’s not ever gonna be perfect, but there gotta be said for something about this site’s brevity.

With good friends tipping me off, being gracious enough to share news with bits with me and even images on my infamous FlickR account , becoming part of Stephan’s GGM Network, and finally after what has been almost an impossible journey .. tOkKa himself is making his own mark positive on the world a ( and in some small ways even the TMNT one :] ).

I am very grateful and eternally thankful, beyond words to those who have supported Mikey’s and me through the years, putting up with my ‘ craziness ‘ , sharing with me, caring. And for supporting Mikey’s sister site .. my humble artistic monstrosity ,**terrible2z .

I do feel that as of 2009 as we are about to leave an unbelievable decade we about to go through a transitional period not just in Fandom , but in the comics, movies, and yeah even animation.

It will be filled with allot of surprises , excitement , disappointment , cheers, jeers, and everything in between.

Turtle’s has gone thoroughly global at this point, i haven’t seen it all but i’ve seen so so much .

So many have no idea at the legions of fans around the world the Turtles are gaining every single day !!

I believe Mikey’s will be there to bring it all to you in a timely manner and i think the ‘ news reporting ‘ has a stronger back bone than years prior.

Mike , Stephan and GGM , Mirage , Rose, Fans and Friends .. all of you . I thank you all so sincerely for continued encouragement and help.

i also want to thank all of Mikey’s Readers. You are the real reason i do this screwy stuff.

It it wasn’t for you and your love for Mikey’s and those Four Crazy Ninjitsu Green Guys & a fuzzy Rat in a kimono  ..

.. well all of this would be very pointless and all the hard work, pain , and travails would have been all for naught.
